When Disaster Threatens

The events of the last few years, natural disasters, terrorism, war have brought us to a place where we have to learn to trust in the only One who knows what the future holds. His name is Jehovah, Strong and Mighty Tower, Redeemer, Lord, Jesus Christ and so much more. He is he only one who knows the beginning from the end because He is the Beginning and the End, the Alpha and Omega, Omniscient and Omnipresent, Eternal God. We must come to realize that He is the only One we can trust in and listen to. We must have our ear finely tuned to His voice no matter what all of the voices around us are saying. I am not saying we should not be precautious or that information on the news should be ignored. What I am saying is that we must first and foremost listen to the voice of the One who knows all things and we must seek to know His voice before disaster threatens us so that we are familiar with the sound of His voice. If we aren't very familiar and intimate with His voice we will listen to our own voice of self driven by fear and panic.

Hurricanes Katrina and Rita are a prime example of our need to listen to His voice. After seeing the devastation caused by Katrina and the threat of a more powerful Rita entering the Gulf the alert level was running high. Voices in the news were saying "evacuate" and those in coastal and flood prone areas heeded those warnings as did many, many others who were not in danger zones. Hats off to Texas Department of Transportation, Law Enforcement and many others for the safe evacuation of over 2.5 million people from the coastal areas and inland. My observation in all of this is that many reacted out of fear rather than listening to the voice of the One who knew what was going to happen in the end.

There were many intercessors all over the U.S and beyond praying for the situation. The day before Rita was expected to hit Galveston Bay as a Category 5, I was praying and was suddenly in the High Court of Heaven. I was proclaiming the Sovereignty of God over all things. Then, I found myself in the eye of Rita with walls of white encircled around me and beautiful blue sky above me, very quiet and peaceful. The voice of the Lord said "trust in Me, you will not see the devastation and destruction that has been forecasted" . That peace was and is available to anyone. It is His eye and what His eye sees that matters, not what our eye sees. On Friday, the day Rita was to hit I was reminded of a host of warrior angels I had seen years ago out over the Gulf while in Galveston. Holy Spirit said that those angels were still there and that Rita was going to confront them and when she did she would be weakened and shifted. Rita had started to turn to the east on Thursday but was wobbling back toward the west again by Friday morning, toward Galveston Bay, at Category 4. Then, just as Holy Spirit had said, she confronted those angels and significantly shifted back to the east and was downgraded to a Category 3. Her eye became very disorganized and weakened. It became very evident through out landfall that the Host of Heaven had done their job in protecting Galveston. Not that there wasn't damage but those there in the city said it is minimal compared to what they had expected. What we need to remember are those
Who were devastated and be a refuge in their time of need. No Christian would pray for the storm to miss them and hit someone else. But our prayer CAN affect this natural world. While we pray for the storm to be dismantled in the Gulf or to hit uninhabited land, we know that we must always add "Thy will be done' to every prayer we pray.

We must learn to listen to His voice. We must let Him remove everything of self within us so that we can hear Him and not ourselves. The flesh, rooted in fear, will keep us listening to ourselves.
