Eagles
vs. Geese
January 2001
- I
have never been one that wanted to hang with the status quo,
or one that the Lord would let anyway. It seems like everytime
I try I am so struck by all the entertainment and self -promotion
in the Body of Christ, I feel defiled for days. I was praying
about this and kept saying to the Lord, 'I see others go to
places and events and they don't feel defiled or grieved in
the midst of the newest spiritual trends and socialization.
I am not talking about genuine Christian fellowship-but SOCIALIZING,
where it would be hard for someone to tell if we were His or
not! Then I had a prophetic experience that settled the matter
once and for all. I was dreaming about these geese flying toward
my head and suddenly this huge screen dropped down before me
and I saw all these people. Multitudes of people all trying
to go somewhere, all trying to get someplace. And I saw the
self- promotion, self- appointing, and the need to be seen and
be great among man. I was so grieved and wanted to run the other
way, but instead I begin to run toward the screen and I busted
through it like a huge piece of glass and shattered it. As I
busted through the other side, I began to fly like an eagle.
I was no longer facing the geese in the crowd, but now I was
high above a snowcapped mountain range soaring like an eagle,
while a gentle snow was falling softly on me. It didn't last
long enough, the peace and quiet compared to the noisy throng
of the crowd of people was almost deafening. The atmosphere
that high was gloriously saturated with His Presence. As I came
down from there, it occurred to me that geese fly in a flock,
eagles fly alone. I do not mean disconnected from the Body of
Christ or out from under the submission of a local pastor and
church. But alone time is vital for an eagle, they cannot busily
fly with others that need to fill their days with stuff in order
to validate themselves or busily been seen at every 'event'
to get their validation from others. Eagles get all their validation
from the Lord. While geese must work and strive to get where
they are going, eagles long to get alone high above all the
self-promotion and self-appointment to watch, fly, soar and
look at things from above with the Golden Eagle Himself, the
Lord Jesus Christ. The most obvious differnce between eagles
and geese is, geese head south when bitter winds began to blow--eagles
on the other hand spread their wings and allow the harsh winds
to take them higher. Don't fly south when things get hard--spread
your wings and ascend into His Presence. While we can learn
unity and submission from watching geese because they submit
to their leader and stay in their rank in the flying order we
must "yoke" ourselves to no one but Jesus. We must be content
to be lone individuals (Eagles) before we can be effective corporately
as a 'flock'.
