The Baby Blanket
Marcia had just been informed she was going to be a grandmother for the first time. She shared it with her friend Francine and since Marcia doesn't knit, Francine (who by the way has knitted baby blankets that she and others pray over, for many people, even around the world as a ministry), suggested a baby blanket for the new baby Paige that was being fearfully and wonderfully made in her mother's womb. Marcia thought that was a great idea. The two friends went to pick a pattern together and to select some yarn. Marcia left the blanket items with Francine and waited. Meanwhile Francine could not make this pattern work! She started knitting this difficult pattern and it became mind consuming. She looked down one day while working on it, and to her horror there was a hole in the blanket about the size of a quarter. She immediately said to the Lord, 'Are you trying to tell me something'? Did the hole mean God was trying to tell her this was not the pattern He wanted? After all Marcia had picked the pattern, what was she going do to? She stopped work on the blanket and prayed about it. She went back to the blanket and began to unravel everything she had done so far and really felt a sense of relief. She did not call Marcia and tell her because the Presence of the Lord was so real while she would work on the blanket, it was as if He were leading her every stitch. She was being lead to make a blanket like she had made for her own daughter 37 years before! Francine said she has made a lot of blankets, but not one ever turned out like this. For you knitting pros, she says there were no errors only seven curves and seven skins of yarn. Seven in the bible represents perfection and little did she know how perfect this blanket would be for Baby Paige. The day arrived for Francine to deliver the blanket to Marcia. She warned Marcia that it was not the pattern that they had picked out and that God had put a hole in the first blanket she tried to make, but she felt confident that this is the blanket God wanted Marcia to give her grandbaby. As the blanket was pulled out of the bag Marcia gasped out loud. She could not believe what her eyes were seeing. She told Francine, 'Now I understand'! In a moment's time, everything became clear as her mind flashed back 20+ years ago when her own mother gave her the same blanket for her daughter! Her mother had made the same blanket for all three of Marcia's children, the pattern was identical! Baby Paige's great grandmother was not here to knit her a blanket and Paige will never know her great granny on earth, but she has a baby blanket just like her great granny made for her mom! Marcia took the blanket to her daughter and told her the story. Later Marcia glanced into her daughter's bedroom. There on her daughter Stacey's bed was the blanket, not in the gift box, but spread out on her bed representing the memories of her grandmother and the kindness and unconditional love of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the infinite way He is involved in our lives even down to the tiniest stitch in a baby's blanket. Marcia,
Francine and I hope this real story will inspire you and give you hope
that no matter where you are in life, there is a God who is involved
in the details of everything you are going through, and He loves you
more than you can know. Our prayer is that He will give you your own
'baby blanket' moments so you too can have a testimony of His great
love to share with others.
